Nutrition + The Microbiome Conference: The Environmental Influencers of Microbial Health

DESCRIPTION

This session will continue introducing the components of the microbiome and
how they are classified. Prebiotics vs Probiotics vs Postbiotics. The nomenclature of how parts of the microbiome will be reviewed, and the role that bacteria play in fermentation and metabolism will be discussed.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  1. Classify the components of the human microbiome

  2. Define what prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics are and how they are
    related to health and disease
  3. Explain the biochemistry of bacterial metabolism and fermentation

INSTRUCTOR

Heather Zwickey brings light and positivity to her role as the Director of Communication and Innovation at Thaena.  Heather earned a Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Zwickey went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship and teach at Yale University School of Medicine. 

Dr. Zwickey launched the Helfgott Research Institute and established the School of Graduate Studies at the National University of Natural Medicine. She currently co-leads an NIH funded clinical research training program focused on training the next generation of integrative medicine researchers. She speaks at conferences world-wide.
